Tabor Hill Winery is 30 minutes from Coloma going towards Chicago. We didn’t want to waste our long drive to Michigan by just going straight home.
It was beautiful country driving. The rolling terrain so lush with pines and other greenery only broken by acres of orchards and grape vines. Michigan is the Midwest’s Napa Valley.
The first time I ever tasted their wine was on a road trip to Saugatuck where they have a tasting room. I brought home several wines then.
Tabor Hill wines are served in the White House and President Ford ordered several hundreds of boxes of their Classic Demi-Sec after he tasted it. It is said that President Ford never ran out of it while he was running the country. Tabor Hill is very popular too for Chicagoans.
If you are ever there, join their walking tour. It is a brief walk from the restaurant to the vineyard and a few steps from there, their modern cellar and then back to the basement of the restaurant.
I was still too full from our picnic lunch so I had some gelato from their bar. I had a co-worker who would drive all the way to Buchanan for special occasion just to have dinner at Tabor Hill Restaurant.
